Trump responds to viral G-7 photo

That G7 photo: Who’s trumping whom? It’s perspective, stupid G7 photograph memifies Trump diplomacy | News | World

President Donald Trump said he and German Chancellor Angela Merkel were waiting for a final draft of a joint statement by G-7 leaders when an iconic photograph was taken over the weekend showing the two leaders in what appeared to be a confrontation.

Merkel rejects the idea, fearing it would be seen in the European Union as Germany going it alone and that it would hurt over-burdened frontline Mediterranean countries such as Italy and Greece.

His news conference to announce the details of the plan was called off Tuesday after he and Merkel couldn't agree, and he is now pushing for a resolution by the end of the week. On Saturday, a rejected Iraqi asylum seeker suspected of raping and murdering a 14-year-old girl was detained after a foiled attempt to return to Iraq.

Merkel's party would not comment on the meeting.

He's now started to draw support for his ideas from Merkel's own party, as well as from other countries.

Describing her impression from Trump's behavior at the summit as "disillusionment", Merkel said that "we will not allow ourselves to be deceived again and again" and that Europe will not permit the American president to do "whatever he pleases".

However, a new anti-establishment Italian government is also vowing to turn away migrants - it has already forced one ship to divert to Spain - and it is unclear whether she will succeed.

But it looks like we're waiting to see who'll make the first move in this bold new direction. There's no word yet on whether or not combat sequences will be included in the Netflix show.

Under EU law, migrants must apply for asylum in the member country of the bloc where they first arrive.

The CSU's Alexander Dobrindt said Seehofer had the authority to act without Merkel's consent and order police to turn back the migrants - a potential act of open defiance that would force Merkel to fire him, sparking a coalition collapse.

Mr Seehofer rejected claims he had snubbed Germany's leader.

She is reported to have told Seehofer and Bavaria's minister president, Markus Söder, she was prepared to compromise by striking bilateral agreements with the European Union countries most affected by new arrivals, including Italy and Greece, but it is understood they turned that idea down. The Social Democrats, the junior partner in Merkel's grand coalition, have largely left the two conservative parties to fight it out between themselves. He also caused controversy earlier this year when he renamed his position of interior minister ― a powerful role in German politics ― to that of homeland minister, a term that has Nazi-era connotations in Germany.

Merkel has been insisting on a European solution to the issue rather than an ad hoc national approach like Hungary's decision to close its borders at the height of the crisis in 2015.

"Italy is going further than other states: migrants will not be accepted in the ports any more".

The interior ministry said in a statement that the unveiling of the plan had been pushed back because "several points still need to be agreed".
