President Donald Trump said he and German Chancellor Angela Merkel were waiting for a final draft of a joint statement by G-7 leaders when an iconic photograph was taken over the weekend showing the two leaders in what appeared to be a confrontation.
Merkel rejects the idea, fearing it would be seen in the European Union as Germany going it alone and that it would hurt over-burdened frontline Mediterranean countries such as Italy and Greece.
His news conference to announce the details of the plan was called off Tuesday after he and Merkel couldn't agree, and he is now pushing for a resolution by the end of the week.
