The United Nations says that Yemen is now the world's worst humanitarian crisis and that 22.2 million Yemenis are in need of humanitarian aid.

The group, known by its French acronym MSF, has temporarily frozen its activities in the area, "until we guarantee the safety of our staff and patients", said Joao Martins, MSF's head of mission in Yemen on Twitter.

Yemeni President Abdrabu Mansur Hadi is to hold talks in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday amid reports that an offensive on Yemen's rebel-held port city of Al Hodeidah is imminent.

His efforts to convince the rebels to hand over control of Al Hodeidah to UN-supervised global forces had failed, according to reports.

Urgent British-led efforts at the UN were under way to dissuade the United Arab Emirates and the Saudis from pressing ahead with the attack - or at least to give undertakings that it will not seek to starve Hodeidah into submission. Oosterom described Hodeidah as a "lifeline" for aid deliveries in Yemen.

Malki also denied that the coalition targeted any medical facility affiliated with Doctors Without Borders in Yemen on Monday.

Only half of Yemen's health facilities are functional and almost 10 million people are in need ahead of an anticipated outbreak of cholera, MSF added. In fact the MSF has issued a clarification and apologized, he said. Seven civilians, including four children, were injured in the airstrike located less than 100 meters from the NRC facility.

The United Nations, which has for years unsuccessfully sought to temper the conflict is pushing for a ceasefire in an effort to prevent an attack on Hodeidah.

The rebels control much of northern Yemen, including the capital, Sanaa.

The Saudi-backed Yemeni forces continued to make ground advancement during the battles with Houthis on Yemen's west coast near the Hodeidah Airport.

A broader United Nations peace plan calls on the Houthis to give up their missiles in return for an end to a coalition bombing campaign and a transitional governance deal, according to a draft document and sources.

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said there Griffiths was in "intense negotiations" about Hodeidah, AFP reported.

Guterres, the United Nations chief, said there has been a recent "lull in the fighting" to allow for discussions and hopefully avoid a battle.
