Net neutrality rollback: FCC chairman Ajit Pai responds to critics

Net neutrality repeal takes effect Monday Net Neutrality Officially Expired. Now States Are Passing Their Own Laws

The repeal of Obama-era net neutrality protections officially took effect on Monday, almost six months after the Republican-led Federal Communications Commission voted to roll back the rules.

Another misleading ISP claim is that they want to get rid of Title II, and not net neutrality rules in general.

Pai argued that net neutrality created a disincentive for internet services to invest in their networks. Before the FCC passed the net neutrality rules in 2015, there were already reports that Verizon and Comcast were slowing down Netflix, YouTube, and other services.

Obama-era regulations known as net neutrality officially end Monday.

Net neutrality is the basic principle that all internet traffic should be be treated equally. "Our transparency rule will also help ensure that any problematic conduct by Internet service providers is quickly identified and corrected". Instead, the agency will only require providers to publicly disclose how they treat internet traffic, and will leave it up to the Federal Trade Commission to make sure they are doing what they said and aren't being anticompetitive.

Q. What's the impact of the repeal?

While internet users outraged back in December when the repeal was voted for, the internet has been relatively quiet as the changes went live. Under the old policy, any blocking or slowing of websites would directly run afoul of the rules, inviting immediate enforcement. Consumer advocates are concerned that internet providers plan to extend prioritization to the internet.

On May 16, the U.S. Senate, where Republicans hold only a narrow majority, voted 52 to 47 to overturn the decision by the FCC - which is now composed of three Republicans and Rosenworcel.

For now, no. But that could change in the future. But the companies can't simply promise one thing and blatantly do another, at least not without risking FTC litigation. "Some of the politicians who've been grandstanding on this issue have been misinforming the public", the chairman said, pointing to Senate Democrats who tweeted for months that an end to net neutrality would cripple Web speeds. But what's more likely to occur are subtle changes to your Internet experience that you may or may not notice.

Jolie can only call once a day when the kids are with the actor. "They worked out an agreement that was mutually acceptable". Brad will not have all the kids at once, but he'll designate one or two of the children to spend time with at a time.

Pai says that the criticism from net neutrality supporters is overheated, that there are sufficient safeguards in place to protect against broadband providers from abusing their control over the internet. Under this theory, you won't know what you're missing.

What do you think about the net neutrality repeal?

Q. Yes, finally! What's an example?

"I think ultimately it's going to mean better, faster, cheaper internet access and more competition", Pai told the Washington Post.

Q. Isn't Congress trying to reverse the repeal?

And how will repealing net neutrality affect me?

Q. What are its chances in the House?

"The people saying we can't pass the resolution to #SaveTheInternet in the House are the same people who were saying we couldn't do it in the Senate", Sen. Plus, President Donald Trump could still just veto the measure. "So now it's up to us to keep raising a ruckus until internet openness is the law of the land". A federal appeals court in Washington has not set a date for oral arguments.

More than 20 states have filed a lawsuit to stop the net neutrality repeal. Others, including the governors of Montana and NY, used executive orders to force net neutrality.
