Rajinikanth's latest gangster thriller Kaala released in theatres today.

The 67-year-old Tamil superstar made a fervent appeal in Kannada to various stakeholders for the screening of the action film across the state a day before the release.

Amid high drama and police cover, Rajinikanth's Kaala was screened in many parts of the state, including Bengaluru. A morning show in Lido Mall on MG Road had to be cancelled and money was refunded to all customers. "But we hope they have some great story to be shared which may be liked and the film does well", said Mohan. "We will not allow Tamil films to run".

In appearances before congressional panels since then, Pruitt has repeatedly blamed subordinates for his alleged ethical lapses. Early this year, two of Pruitt's top aides received large raises: 52 percent in one case and 33 percent in the other.

Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy seemed to tacitly support the protest with his statement requesting distributors and exhibitors not to show the film. There was security in all the malls where the screening had been planned with about 50 police personnel both outside the mall and inside near the screening halls. He is a Rajini fan. While fans are enjoying the release of the much awaited movie, here's another reason to celebrate. "He (Rajinikanth) has hurt us by supporting the cause of Tamil Nadu in the sharing of the river water", KRV president Praveen Shetty told reporters here.

An official, on the condition of anonymity, said: "We have not issued tickets for the morning and afternoon shows though many fans turned up to watch the movie on the first day first show as we do not want to antagonise the protesters and also want to ensure that the tense situation outside does not go out of hand". Don't be surprised if you find Aamir Khan sitting next to you in one of the theatres.
