Democrats Grab Spots in Congressional Runoffs

Nearly 100,000 cast early votes in New Mexico Nearly 100,000 cast early votes in New Mexico

In the more closely-competed governor's race, the Democrats still enjoy a sizable advantage, as its candidate Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom earned 33.3 percent of the vote against Republican businessman John Cox's 26.2 percent. "We're engaged in an epic battle", Newsom told supporters Tuesday, calling Cox a "footsoldier in (Donald Trump's) war on California". Instead, the state adopted an "open primary" system, where voters all get the same ballots and the top two vote-getters advance no matter their party affiliation.

Respondents reported greater trust in Republicans to handle issues related to terrorism, border security and the economy, but Democrats were favored by respondents on issues such as climate change, health care, immigration and judicial nominations.

Finally, 37 percent of voters say that - based on what they've seen, read or heard - Trump's 2016 presidential campaign did collude or work secretly with Russian Federation, while 34 percent disagree; 28 percent didn't know enough to say. And President Donald Trump, crediting "the Trump impact", said there might be "a big Red Wave" instead. "We'll have a good debate about which way this state should go". Neither party immediately appeared to suffer major setbacks.

But Trump's approval ratings among Republicans are near a historical high and remarkable for a president who has so often abandoned GOP orthodoxy on issues and created so much discomfort with his conduct and behaviour. Female Republican governors in Alabama and Iowa will vie for their first full terms in November after succeeding men who resigned. Democrat state Sen. Kevin de Leon and Republican James Bradley are now running two and three.

Republicans were spending part of today analysing California turnout figures, looking to assure themselves that there will be enough Republican voters in November to block Democrats from taking too many of those competitive contests.

In Montana, the establishment-backed Matt Rosendale, the state auditor, won the Republican Senate nomination; he'll face a slightly uphill but by no means unwinnable race against Democratic incumbent Jon Tester. "So far this cycle, women have won 47 of 68 incumbent-less Democratic primary matchups with male candidates" for the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House, and gubernatorial seats, according to Nathaniel Rakich of Inside Elections and FiveThirtyEight.

Republicans do not appear to have shut Democrats out of any competitive congressional races-despite the Democrats' own worries about that-boosting the latter's hopes of regaining control of the House in November.

No state offers Democrats more opportunities to gain House seats this fall than California, where more than a half-dozen Republican-held seats might be in play. The favorite of Washington Democrats will take on GOP Assemblyman Jay Webber in one of several New Jersey races Democrats view as possible pickups. If she wins, it would be Feinstein's fifth term in Congress.

Other video features include S-Log3/S-Gamut3, 120p Full HD mode, Picture Profile, 240/480/960fps slow motion, and proxy recording. The camera's eye detection mode for photographing people is also two times more accurate compared to the predecessor, Sony says.

Roby was the first member of Congress to withdraw her endorsement of the Republican President in 2016 after he was caught on video bragging about grabbing women's genitals.

The top two system could also lock Republicans out of California's Senate race, in which the Democratic longtime incumbent Dianne Feinstein is likely to face the state's former senate president pro tempore Kevin de Léon, a fellow Democrat.

In the race for governor, Cox's second-place finish was a victory for a state GOP that has been shrinking in numbers and influence.

Rep. David G. Valadao was another bright spot for Republicans. "It is more about getting Republicans to cross the line and vote Democrat".

Levin said he was also happy Democrats did not get locked out of other close contests.

CORRECTION (June 6, 2018, 11:02 a.m.): An earlier version of this article incorrectly described a Republican candidate for the U.S. House seat in South Dakota as the chief of staff to the governor.

She easily won her 2016 primary. He notched about 30 percent in a large field, though the second-place finisher remained unclear. The Republican who thought - we thought might squeak through isn't even - it doesn't look like at this point anywhere near them. Other tasks, including a protection of vulnerable congressional districts, seemed more pressing.
