For World No Tobacco Day 2018, WHO joined with the World Heart Federation to highlight the link between tobacco and cardiovascular diseases (CVD) - the world's leading causes of death, responsible for 44% of all NCD deaths, or 17.9 million deaths annually.

They will provide more convenient services to help people quit smoking, begin technical support for Olympic tobacco control, enhance the supervisory system and implement law enforcement. Most of the cardiovascular and respiratory diseases and cancer types, including some 80-85% of lung cancer are caused by long-term smoking.

France's Health Minister Agnès Buzyn in particular welcomed the decline in smoking among those on low incomes, saying that "tobacco is a trajectory of inequality, it weighs particularly on the most disadvantaged and it gets worse". According to doctors, passive smokers have a 25-30% added risk of developing heart diseases.

The focus this year is "Tobacco and Heart Disease" to emphasize impact tobacco has on the cardiovascular health of people across the globe.

Omiyefa said that every year, Nigeria loses all cadres of manpower and all categories of statesmen to tobacco-related deaths.

Of the 13 countries the Foundation surveyed, the majority of smokers in each consider themselves addicted to cigarette, ranging from 60 per cent in India to 91 per cent in Japan.

The younger group are content with sharing pictures of them smoking on social media accounts, with around 23 per cent of the respondents saying that they smoked to 'look cool.' They also smoke 7 cigarettes on average whereas the older group smokes five on average, every day.

There is no evidence to suggest however, that Halper was inserted into the Trump campaign, as the president has suggested. The report shows the investigation in total cost almost $10 million between October and March.

The new packaging rules for tobacco products prohibit promotional information, branding and logos, and were firmly opposed by Big Tobacco.

The United Nations' World Health Organization (WHO) is marking "No Tobacco Day" on Thursday focusing on heart diseases. In 2017, there were 12.2 million smokers.

'Measures that reduce the risks to heart health posed by tobacco include making all indoor public and workplaces completely smoke-free and promoting use of tobacco package warnings that demonstrate the health risks of tobacco'.

The organisation said it was concerned that the number of lives lost as a result of tobacco use, but noted that the measures would save lives as well as generate money for governments. He said nicotine gums, patches, sprays, inhalers and medicines can help one quit tobacco.

"Everyday people pick up tobacco, and it can affect their health in negative ways and things like that", said Jordan Darensbourg.

And it cautioned that research showed there was "a serious lack of knowledge" about the different health risks associated with tobacco.

The WHO forecasts declines in global volume and sales value by the start of the next decade, but while Europe and America are kicking the habit, in the near East and Africa tobacco consumption is rising.
