Iran lists tough conditions for Europe to save nuclear deal

Iran can not "interact" with the United States as it is a country whose word can not be trusted, supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was quoted as saying on Wednesday.

The US has "deep enmity with" Iran, he said, adding that Washington intends to "destroy the power factors of the Islamic republic", Xinhua reported.

US sanctions lifted after the 2015 accord would be reimposed, the top USA diplomat said, and those and new measures would together constitute "unprecedented financial pressure on the Iranian regime".

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo laid out 12 requirements for signing a new nuclear deal with Iran.

Mr Pompeo warned Iran would be hit with the "strongest sanctions in history" unless it adhered to stricter terms, including ending its ballistic missile programme and its interventions in regional conflicts from Yemen to Syria.

Pompeo has called for the negotiation of a new deal that would go far beyond the single focus of the nuclear agreement and would have the status of a formal treaty.

The UK, France and Germany, meanwhile, have been trying to keep the deal alive, and Iran says it will restart its nuclear programme unless its concerns are met.

As the geopolitical drama between not only Iran and the US, but between the USA and its European Union allies unfolds over Trump's decision to pull out of the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal, Iran is vowing that USA sanctions can't touch its oil exports.

Iran did not want a fight with Europe, Khamenei said, but Britain, Germany, and France "have shown that they will follow America in the most sensitive issues".

On May 8, President Donald Trump withdrew the USA from the UN-endorsed nuclear agreement, a move which Salehi described as "unwise".

"Europe should fully guarantee Iran's oil sales". Though marginal amounts of reduced supply can weigh heavily when markets are nearing an undersupply scenario, these barrels can be made up, at least in part, by Saudi Arabia who has indicated it would step in to make up for the loss of Iranian barrels, Russian Federation and others, including US shale oil production that has a feeding frenzy any time oil price s spike.

They should continue buying Iranian oil and should, if necessary, also buy Iranian oil the United States decides not to buy.

All of the above signatories pledged to honour their commitments under the deal.

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) saw Iran agree to limit the size of its stockpile of enriched uranium - which is used to make reactor fuel but also nuclear weapons - for 15 years and the number of centrifuges installed to enrich uranium for 10 years.

"Iran was committed to the deal".

Pompeo tells the House Foreign Affairs Committee that he is planning a meeting in early to mid-June with "a number of partners" including Britain, France and Germany, which were parties to the nuclear deal along with Russian Federation and China.

Pompeo also told the House committee that the United States will not tolerate Russian interference in 2018 US elections and will oppose "continued efforts to do so". These US sanctions are not acceptable.
