YouTube launching a new music streaming service on May 22

YouTube have announced that they are adding the credits across premium music videos and to content featuring recorded music. According to an announcement, "Music in this video" credits the artist, songwriter, label and publishers behind than half a billion music videos.
The new feature will also link the artist's official YouTube channel or available music videos. "Music in this video" will be accessible by clicking "Show more" underneath a video.
Why YouTube has waited so long to present this music discovery feature is anyone's guess (Shazam anyone), but here it is.
It's a good addition to the YouTube platform, especially considering it will help provide proper credit to artists and songwriters involved in songs. YouTube reached a settlement in 2016 with the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) to pay royalties to songwriters. It's how the platform finds and blocks copyrighted material uploaded without permission. "We do have melody match tech that matches videos directly to musical compositions, but the quality of the metadata is still being improved. This will be an area for us to continue working with the industry and ultimately expand to covers etc". Both official music videos and fan-made content will offer the option.
And for users, "when a song catches your ear in a video, you can now learn more and dive in deeper by following a link to the official video when available to discover even more about the creators of the song you're digging". Second, the data comes from YouTube's partnerships with record labels, music publishers and music rights societies.
Added Ashcroft, "Unlike with CDs, and LPs before that, songwriters are not generally credited for their work on digital services and platforms; I welcome the steps that YouTube is taking to right this wrong and look forward to supporting their efforts on behalf of all our members".
"What YouTube has done by making credits a priority to its platform will allow a better music experience for all".
