Dust Storm expected in Delhi within 72 hours warns Indian Meteorological Department IMD issues fresh thunderstorm warning, says may hit north India within three days

A severe dust storm, accompanied with strong winds and light rains, had hit Delhi NCR during wee hours on Wednesday causing power outage and uprooting trees in several parts. The police received almost 60 calls related to uprooted trees, fallen electricity polls and wall collapses across the region.

Earlier on May 2, a dust storm wreaked havoc across Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, killing more than 100 people, uprooting trees and flattening houses. So far, there were no reports of casualties.

A new western disturbance and a low pressure area over the Arabian Sea will affect weather in north and northwestern India till Friday, the Met department said.

After a massive dust storm hit Delhi-NCR early Wednesday morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a thunderstorm alert. The storm comes after a deadly thunderstorm claimed over 80 lives across five states on Sunday. Also, east India will also continue to see scattered thunderstorm activity on Wednesday.

Uttar Pradesh witnessed thunderstorm and hail that left at least 18 people dead, while 12 people including four children were killed in West Bengal, nine in Andhra Pradesh, and two in Delhi, officials said. According to reports, thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds (with speed 50-70 km) is very likely at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
