This is sent through a seven-speed dual-clutch auto transmission as standard, with acceleration from 0-100km/h taking just 4.2 seconds - down from 4.3 seconds in the regular 272kW M2.

The new engine means that the M2 outdoes the Cayman GTS's 4.3 second 0-62mph time, but still falls short of the TT RS's 3.7-second effort.

This model also comes with a revised chassis setup and optional upgraded braking system which were fitted to make it much sharper with its handling, while carbon-fibre reinforced struts were installed in the engine bay for additional rigidity.

With the M Driver's package, the top speed increases to 174 miles per hour, 6 MPH faster than the 2018 model.

"With the great success the current M2 has enjoyed in Australia, we simply can not wait for the M2 Competition to arrive", said BMW Group Australia CEO, Marc Werner. Timing and prices, along with availability, will be announced "shortly", according to the local arm. Both achieve a top speed governed at 155mph, but this can be raised to 174mph with an optional Driver's Package.

BMW Australia has confirmed the new M2 Competition will be offered locally.

LeBron James Sued For Reportedly Stealing Show Idea
The tabloid said the company claims it had several talks with LeBron's company, UNINTERRUPTED , about the idea. A second episode aired in March, and filming for a third episode has been completed, ESPN reports .

As for the design, there's a new front skirt to optimise air flow and cooling, with black kidney grilles and side gills, with black quad-outlet exhaust tips, and dark M2 badges. A dual exhaust system with electronic flap control provides the distinctive M sound. The BMW grille is larger, too, and now finished in high-gloss black. BMW has just unveiled the 2019 M2 Competition with thrilling news.

For a little extra exclusivity, the Competition can be optioned with a new forged 19-inch aluminium wheel package, which wears wider 245/35 rubber at the front and 265/35 tyres at the back. The standard 6-speed manual transmission has rev match technology for smoother gear changes.

Inside, you'll find M2 Competition door sills along with optional M Sport bucket seats with illuminated M2 badges, orange or blue perforations and stitching as well as Alcantara trim on the side bolsters. If you like to tinker with your car's settings, though, the M DCT will be for you.

Shedding speed should be no harder than gaining it - huge 400mm brake discs with six-piston grey-painted calipers are fitted up front and there's a 380mm, four-piston setup at the rear. The electromechanical power steering, the Active M Differential and the Dynamic Steering Control system have all been enhanced. The various configurations can be combined in whichever way the driver prefers and can be stored for easy access using the M1 and M2 buttons on the steering wheel. As expected it features an S55-based twin-turbo inline six borrowed from the M3 and M4, making it the most powerful M2 variant yet.

Order books for the BMW M2 Competition open in mid-May, ahead of deliveries starting in August.
