Cohen ordered to appear in court in fight over seized documents

Michael Cohen President Donald Trump's lawyer doesn't want Lawyers for Trump's Personal Attorney Set for Friday Court Appearance

As the New York Times noted, the investigation into Cohen could unravel some of Trump's thorny personal and business relationships.

Not only would evidence that Cohen indeed traveled to Prague reveal he's been lying, but it would discredit the argument Trump and his allies in Congress have been using to discredit the Russian Federation investigation.

Among the documents seized during an Federal Bureau of Investigation raid targeting President Donald Trump's personal attorney are recordings of conversations Michael Cohen had with the former lawyer to two women who claim to have had affairs with Trump, according to a CNN report.

Even if Cohen didn't meet with Kosachev in Prague, the fact that he lied about his visit to the European country itself raises a number of questions as it proves he is trying to hide a wrongdoing.

Broidy, a former national vice chair of the Trump campaign, resigned on Friday as deputy finance chair of the Republican National Committee, according to a person familiar with that matter.

Cohen has denied for months that he ever has been in Prague or colluded with Russian Federation during the campaign.

Cohen and the company, represented by Brent Blakely, and Trump, represented by Charles Harder, have asked the court to send the case to arbitration - as required by the agreement.

Daniels has until Monday evening to file her opposition, and then Cohen will have through Tuesday evening to respond. He is expected to make his first appearance at the hearing in U.S. District Court in NY, where his presence has been ordered by a judge considering a request on how to handle materials seized in the Federal Bureau of Investigation raid. Avenatti has suggested the documents could include paperwork about the $130,000 hush agreement made with Daniels to keep her quiet about her alleged 2006 tryst with Trump. Justice Department regulations require prosecutors to have a "taint team" not involved in the underlying investigation to sift through seized materials and make sure prosecutors don't see things that aren't relevant or are protected by lawyer-client privilege.

Cohen's lawyers (and one of Trump's) argued in Manhattan on Friday to block any use of evidence obtained as part of the searches of Cohen's home, office, hotel room, safety deposit box, and cell phones. For example, two stories that should have been completely separate seemed to merge.

The disclosures raise the prospect that Cohen may have cut other deals to bury salacious claims about Trump.

Trump expressed outrage after the Federal Bureau of Investigation raid, calling it a "disgraceful situation" and a "total witch hunt" during off-the-cuff remarks to reporters.

Meanwhile the Trump Organization, which Trump led until entering office previous year, claimed to prosecutors that "each and every communication" involving Cohen and their executives should also be considered privileged.

Trump's words to the press also come up. This month, Kosachev was among 24 high-profile Russians whom the USA sanctioned in retaliation for Russia's meddling.

"There is a legal liability for him if this is true", he explained.
