Nikki Haley spoke to reporters on Friday ahead of a UN Security Council meeting on Syria.

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley insisted chemical weapons were used in the suspected attack in Syria.

Haley derided Russia's claim the attack on the rebel-held suburb of Douma last week was staged, saying three separate analyses have concluded the chemical attack occurred.

The Kremlin on Friday threatened to shoot down any missiles the USA may launch at Syria in response to the attack.

Haley went on to say that USA intelligence believes Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has used chemical weapons at least 50 times during the seven-year Syrian civil war, and that Russian Federation can not credibly distance itself from Assad's crimes. "You shouldn't be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!" "Could be very soon or not so soon at all!" The White House indicated Wednesday that diplomacy was still on the table, but harsh rhetoric from Trump and others make that route increasingly unlikely. "And it is ignoring its own unilateral responsibility for all of it".

"I am unbelievably proud of how President Trump has looked at the information, analyzed, not let anyone rush him into this, because he has said from the beginning, we have to know if we're right, we have to know all the information, we have to know that there's proof, and we have to know that we're taking every precaution necessary should we take action", she said.

For one, it could intensify an already devastating civil war and lead to further casualties. She also noted that Russian Federation had agreed to guarantee the removal of Syria's chemical weapons, and had they followed through with that promise, "we would not be here today".

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who warned that the Syrian crisis "represents the most serious threat to global peace and security", said he backed USA -led efforts to send independent investigators to the scene of the alleged chemical attack, but he also warned against actions that could lead to military escalation.

Russia's ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin said that United States threats to use force in Syria is in violation of global law.

"We continue to observe unsafe military preparations for an illegal act of force against a sovereign state in what would constitute a breach of global law", Nebenzia told the U.N. Security Council.

"It is Russian Federation alone that has stopped at nothing to defend the Syrian regime's multiple uses of chemical weapons", she said. "We call on the leadership of these states to immediately reconsider".
