Apple reportedly cuts HomePod orders after disappointing early sales

No Echo here: Apple reportedly cut orders for its HomePod smart speaker last month Apple cuts orders of HomePod on weak demand

Bloomberg sources say Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has lowered its sales forecasts on the HomePod and cut some orders with manufacturer Inventec.

Slice says the HomePod's market share dropped to 10% at the 10-week mark and to 4% three weeks after launch. The main issue seems to be that consumers assumed that the HomePod would retain the same functionality as competing speakers like the Google Home or Amazon Echo.

The news site blames the poor sales on the speaker's high price tag and lacklustre connectivity options, and on Apple's failure to bring it to the market in time for the Christmas rush. The China Times has a poor track record on predicting Apple's product plans including sales volumes, but reports generated on the supply chain by the publication are generally accurate.

Realistically, the current HomePod feature set only appeals to Apple Music subscribers right now.

The researchers, who were from the University of Connecticut's School of Medicine, studied 36 bathrooms across the campus. Unlike other types of B. subtilis often found in soil, this strain is only found in laboratory environments.

Apple's HomePod smart speaker is not off to a good start. The report that was revealed today said that it failed to specify Apple's sales expectations for HomePod and it doesn't assign a figure about the order reduction. "Though the HomePod delivers market-leading audio quality, consumers have discovered it's heavily dependent on the iPhone and is limited as a digital assistant". HomePod, despite being $100 more expensive than the most expensive Amazon Echo product - Echo Show, which has a video screen - is limited in voice commands to mainly controlling Apple's proprietary apps, such as Apple Music. With the exception of $400 Google Home Max, Google's two other smart speaker devices, the $50 Home Mini and $130 Home, also cost significantly less than the Apple HomePod. But in February and March, its share of revenue slipped to 19 percent, according to Slice Intelligence, compared with 68 percent for Amazon.

Hopefully, we see these improvements sooner rather than later as well as upgrades to the Siri experience on HomePod.

It's still too early to label the HomePod a total flop.

It was nearly a year ago that Apple debuted its HomePod speaker. It is expected that shipments will be made in the second quarter in a single month.
