The president bucked decades of United States foreign policy by formally recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital in December and setting in motion plans to move the U.S. embassy there from Tel Aviv.

The White House on Sunday pledged to help states pay for firearms training for teachers and reiterated its call to improve the background check system as part of a new plan to prevent school shootings.

President Donald Trump stood accused yesterday of caving in to the USA gun lobby one month after the Florida school shooting, as the White House pushed ahead with plans to arm teachers but backpedaled on curbing access to assault rifles.

Furthermore, on the conference call the White House announced that Education Secretary Betsy DeVos would be chairing a blue-ribbon commission to study issues of guns and violence in schools, including age limits. This part of the of Trump's previous proposals is not in the plan. She described the plan as "pragmatic".

"The president as you know doesn't have the ability to just create federal law", Sanders said. The shift provides another example of the strong influence wielded by the NRA both at the White House and on Capitol Hill, where most lawmakers remain opposed to significant policy changes in the wake of the shooting massacre that killed 17 at a Parkland, Fla., high school last month. "You can buy a handgun - you can't buy one; you have to wait until you're 21". "He talked a really big game about what he would be supportive of, so it's disappointing to see the proposal that he put forward falls way short of what parents in my community are expecting us to do".

"I'm retired", Beltran said last month.

"It totally eviscerates the right of law-abiding adults between the ages of 18 and 21 to keep and bear arms", the NRA said.

With Pompeo's Rise, Uncertainty Deepens for Iran Nuclear Deal
Trump administration officials say the talks are at an "advanced" stage entering their latest round of meetings in Berlin. U.S. officials will pick up discussions with their European Union counterparts about the fate of the Iran nuclear deal.

White House spokesman Raj Shah had said earlier Sunday in an interview with ABC's "This Week" that "the president has been clear that he does support raising the age to 21" and that that would be a "component" of the announcement.

President Trump yesterday unveiled a bare-bones plan to combat school shootings that marked his retreat from gun control policies he had repeatedly championed just weeks ago, in a move likely to soothe the powerful National Rifle Association.

"There are not going to be one-size-fits-all approaches and solutions, and I think that that is a very cogent argument for having a commission", said a senior administration official, who would only answer questions from reporters on the condition of anonymity.

-The federal government, through the Education Department, DHS and DOJ, will allow states to apply for funding toward extensive armed teacher and school staff training. The White House did not immediately say how much money would be made available.

Mr Trump has also backed legislation aimed at providing more data for the background check system, a database of people who are not legally allowed to buy guns, but did not endorse a broader proposal to close loopholes by requiring background checks for guns bought at gun shows or over the Internet. The president is proposing an expansion and reform of mental health programs, including those that help identify and treat individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others. The bureau has been criticized for not following up on warnings about the suspect in the Parkland school shooting. The president and his fellow Republicans in Congress strongly support Americans' constitutional right to own guns.

The president on Monday also repeated his criticism of keeping guns out of schools, tweeting: "If schools are mandated to be gun free zones, violence and danger are given an open invitation to enter".

"Take the guns first, go through due process second".
