Microsoft will open first Middle East data centers in 2019

US tech giant picks UAE for first Middle East data hubs Microsoft expands their cloud options in Europe and in the Middle East

Last year, the Redmond, Washington-based company announced it was building new data centers in South Africa, from which it planned to serve cloud customers in the Middle East by 2018. I'm also excited to reveal that the Microsoft Cloud in France is officially open with the general availability of Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Office 365 today, and Dynamics 365 will follow in early 2019.

Microsoft is planning to open up two cloud computing centres in Germany, industry sources have told German business publications WirtschaftsWoche (WiWo) and Handelsblatt. The expansion is the result of customer demand, showing Microsoft is following their money and further pushing to compete with Amazon and Google in the cloud wars. With each data center costing upwards of a billion dollars, this isn't a small investment and considering that the company's cloud services are driving the largest growth on the balance sheet, it's obvious why the company is bringing these new regions online.

It also works with technology partners throughout the Middle East and Africa to support more than 4,000 start-ups, and integrating its Abu Dhabi and Dubai data centres with its global cloud infrastructure will connect regional businesses with global opportunities, said Hashish. Microsoft's cloud customers in the region include companies such as Emirates Group, Etihad Airways, Majid Al Futtaim, Jumeirah Hotels and Resorts and Landmark Group, among others. The two new regions will provide enterprise-grade reliability, performance and business continuity combined with data residency within Germany and connectivity to Microsoft's global public cloud network.

Microsoft will deliver cloud services from its first datacenters in Switzerland as well as the Middle East. We've announced a goal to be in 50 regions across the globe, including plans for 12 new regions.
