No, a massive geomagnetic storm will not hit Earth on March 18.

The incoming solar storm has seen an enormous explosion on the surface of the Sun that has blasted an array of solar particles towards the Earth.

And the impending solar storm may bring those Northern Lights much farther south than usual. Fortunately, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), there is no chance for such a scenario happening. According to the Russian Academy of Sciences, there is a massive geomagnetic storm set to hit Earth on March 18.

When a solar storm strikes it usually creates a spectacular "Northern Lights" display in parts of the atmosphere that can be seen in areas close to the Arctic Circle.

That said, one potentially cool effect from the coming G1 solar storm may be in the form of charged up auroras.

But it wasn't plain sailing for the Italian side, with Paulo Fonseca's side looking the better of the two clubs in the first half. He added: "Everyone deserves a standing ovation because we all gave absolutely everything, right up until the last minute".

Solar storms often occur when the Sun belches out a flare and a coronal mass ejection (CME). Meteorologists are predicting a G1-level storm - the lowest level on the solar storm scale, which peaks at G5.

The SWPC says that the northern lights could be seen as far south as ME and MI thanks to the stream of charged particles heading our way.

A massive geomagnetic storm as it was misinterpreted would interfere and damage communication satellites as well as cause blackouts due to the damaged power grid and more.

A report from Tech Times that was published shortly after the series of "sensationalist" articles on the potential geomagnetic storm on March 18 detailed what some of these other reports claimed. Over a century later in Canada, on March 13, 1989, a geomagnetic storm caused a major blackout in the country that lasted nine hours, disrupting electricity from the Hydro Quebec generating station and going as far as melting power transformers in New Jersey. People are advised to take bottles of water, gas filled in car's tanks, important documents at hand, food supplies, etc in such cases. The upcoming storm will put quite a show for stargazers around the world who can assemble at a ideal spot to watch the auroral lights and other natural phenomena that follows. Note that there are certain beliefs associated with solar storms that aren't proved yet as per which, these storms can cause headaches, sleeplessness, and dizziness too.
