President Donald Trump's longtime personal assistant John McEntee has left the White House and will join the president's 2020 re-election campaign.

The investigation is not related to Trump, the sources added.

"Mr. McEntee wasn't as well known as the others, but had been a constant presence at Mr. Trump's side for the past three years", the Journal reported.

Only time will tell whether McEntee is actually guilty of anything, but the fact that he was escorted from the premises without being allowed to gather his belongings is proof that some in the federal government view him as a potentially serious threat to law and order.

Minutes after his firing, McEntee was hired by Trump's reelection campaign as a senior adviser for campaign operations, CNN said.

He joined the Trump campaign early on when aides were scarcely more than Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and current senior adviser-though his security clearance was recently downgraded-and Hope Hicks, the former White House communications director who announced she would resign two weeks ago. Mr. McEntee didn't return a call seeking comment.

"We do not comment on personnel issues", White House press secretary Sarah Sanders told CNN in a statement.

The White House has cracked down on staff with temporary security clearances after the scandal around former White House aide Rob Porter.
