
French fashion icon Hubert de Givenchy, who was known for designing Audrey Hepburn's so-called "little black dress", has died, according to reports.
Givenchy was part of the elite cadre of Paris-based designers including Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and his mentor, Christobal Balenciaga, that redefined fashion in the wake of World War II.
"It is with huge sadness that we inform you that Hubert Taffin de Givenchy has died,"he said."
The French designer was famed for styling Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy.
Born February 21, 1927, Givenchy founded the House of Givenchy in 1952.
The artistic director of Givenchy, Clare Waight Keller, said on her official Instagram account she is "deeply saddened by the loss of a great man and artist I have had the honor to meet..."

A commanding presence in fashion from the moment he presented his first collection in Paris at the age of 24, Givenchy became synonymous with elegance and an insouciant glamour.
Among his customers were a number of women who defined style in the 1950s and '60s including Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly and Jacqueline Kennedy, who wore a Givenchy design to President Kennedy's funeral.
The French fashion tour de force is credited for popularizing the classic LBD. In 1958, he created the iconic Ballon coat and the Baby Doll dress. The men's line was launched in 1969. The company was acquired by luxury retail giant LVMH in 1989 but Givenchy designed for the brand until his retirement in 1995. It went on to acquire Givenchy Parfumes later too. He was succeeded by some of the world's top designers including the infamous John Galliano, the legendary Alexander McQueen and creative Riccardo Tisci.
The designer's nephews and nieces, and their children, share Mr Venet's grief, his statement added.
