Washington, March 12 (Petra)- U.S President Donald Trump's administration will step up aid to states that want to arm school employees under a plan to reduce gun violence at schools and to increase campus safety after the killing of 17 people in Florida last month, USA officials announced late Sunday.

Todd's NBC colleague Savannah Guthrie pressed DeVos on the President's remarks during an interview Monday, asking, "I wonder, as the education secretary, who's in charge of what our kids learn, what do you think of that kind of language?" We're in Michigan. This is your home state.

In August 2015 DeVos gave a speech at the SXSWedu in Texas in which she called America's public school system "a monopoly, a dead end" and advocated for private schools. Her efforts have not coincided with improved outcomes for students. When Stahl stated that the students want gun control, DeVos answered that "they want a variety of things, they want solutions".

"Michigan has fared poorly in several educational measures in recent years", The Detroit News adds.

"I would probably use different language myself", DeVos said.

"Your argument that if you take funds away that the schools will get better, is not working in MI where you had a huge impact and influence over the direction of the school system here", Stahl said. "Well, there are certainly pockets where ... students are doing well", DeVos said.

Stahl again pushed back, noting that "your argument that if you take funds away, the schools will get better, is not working in MI, where you have a huge impact and influence over the direction of the school system here".

DeVos: I hesitate to talk about all schools in general because schools are made up of individual students attending them. "And we have seen zero results", DeVos told Stahl of the public school system Sunday. Trump also supports the "Stop Violence Act", which would provide federal funding to "crisis intervention teams" in schools and other programs, and will audit and improve the FBI tip line, the White House said.

STAHL: Why have you become, people say, the most hated Cabinet secretary? Sometimes it does. Again, I think, I think.

Stahl asked DeVos about her decision previous year to rescind Obama-era Title IX guidelines on how schools should handle sexual assault allegations.
