South Africa's Hashim Amla scored 56 from 148 balls.

Here were the major talking points from day two.

DAVID Warner is one indiscretion away from copping a Test suspension and will be walking that disciplinary tight rope for two years. The opening match staged at Durban in 1st March, 2018.

"Ideally you want to play as straight as possible, but when the ball is reversing like that, you've got to accept that things are slightly in favour of the bowler so you have to be as tight as you can", said Amla.

Rabada has the potential to become a genuine lower-order allrounder and has already shown in this Test match how valuable he is, which will only make his potential absence tougher to deal with.

"He's a big part of this bowling line up. Let's hope that's not the case", Sport24 quoted Philander as saying.

The speedster was given three demerit points for "inappropriate and deliberate physical contact" in 2017, having brushed Niroshan Dickwella when the Sri Lankan was running between the wickets.

Smith's facial expression suggested he was far from pleased with the spray.

"I didn't think of it before the series", Du Plessis said. I will always stick up for my family. Rabada's running battle with the tourists continued when he was sent out as nightwatchman late in the day.

"If you know Quinton's character, you know he is a very quiet guy". The band's cheery brass tunes go hand-in-hand with the seaside venue, often to a mixed reception from fans. They posted 311 in the first innings after Barry Richards and Eddie Barlow shared a 157-run opening partnership. That incident was the low point of an acrimonious game, with verbal exchanges between players out on the field.

"Be aware that they're (South Africa) going to try and bait you and if they're going try and bait you you've got to be able to deal with that".

Mitchell Starc (8) was Rabada's fifth victim, clean bowled to leave Australia reeling on 182-8.

After hurting his ankle against the Kings, Davis' x-rays came back negative, but he is still listed as questionable for this game. The Pelicans get a break with eight of their next nine in New Orleans after playing eight of their past 11 on the road.

Nathan Lyon produced arguably one of the best off-breaks you'll see in worldwide cricket late on day two, dismissing South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock for nine as he began to build a risky partnership with AB de Villiers.

Warner was center of attention in a fractious first test in Durban, where an on-field war-of-words between the teams spilled over.

Bancroft fell on the brink of lunch for 38.

His only boundary during the afternoon came from an edge against Mitchell Marsh to raise his half-century. Markram was trapped lbw for 11 by the first ball that Pat Cummins bowled in the innings, but it was Australia's only breakthrough.

Rabada was the pick of the bowlers with five wickets, while Ngidi snapped up three and Philander took two.

It was the second outstanding innings in the series by De Villiers, who made 71 not out in the first innings of the first Test in Durban before being run out for nought in the second innings as South Africa slipped to a 118-run defeat.

They picked off the runs after that measured start, with Warner accelerating by hitting nine fours.

De Villiers and Philander held firm thereafter, though, and will hope to add significantly to South Africa's now slender lead on day three.

In Rabada's next over Shaun Marsh was beaten by a ball which swung into his pads and was also leg before. Australia went from 161-3 to 182-8 in that spell. His dismissal of Smith sparked Australia's mini-collapse, but also resulted in Rabada brushing his shoulder against Smith as the batsman walked off.

South Africa ended day one on 39/1 and will continue batting on Saturday at 10:00 local time or 08:00 GMT.

Sutherland said he fully supported the punishments of his players and praised match referee Jeff Crowe for his handling of a "difficult situation". In the final Test in Port Elizabeth, South Africa elected to bat first.
