Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN posted his first mock for the 2018 NFL Draft and did not list a single LSU player, most notably leaving running back Derrius Guice and outside linebacker Arden Key out of the first round.
Lanning passed for just 47 yards in 2017, but finished his time as a Cyclone with 2,584 passing yards and 20 touchdown passes.
The next Alabama player taken in the mock draft is defensive tackle Da'Ron Payne, 17th overall by the San Diego Chargers.
Mel Kiper Jr.is slightly less bullish about the draft prospects of several former Auburn stars than other National Football League draft analysts.
The previous time they had a top-5 pick was in 1999 and, after using the first overall pick in the 1998 draft on quarterback Peyton Manning, they secured running back Edgerrin James. They really need a top-tier cornerback. This is a common pick for the Bills in mock drafts. But should a team decide later in the first round to pick a running back, it could well be Guice, it seems.
Kiper expected both Lazard and Lanning to be selected late in the draft, if at all. Nickell Robey-Coleman is also a free agent. The Rams have a huge hole at cornerback ... for now. "Oliver has size (6'0", 190 lbs) and runs exceptionally well. After Marshon Lattimore, Malik Hooker, and Gareon Conley all left for the pros, Ward stepped in and played well for the OSU secondary this season, recording a pair of interceptions and 15 pass breakups.
Kiper said he is "not as high on Kerryon Johnson" as others, but did not give a round grade to the SEC's Offensive Player of the Year.

However, if you're going to draft a quarterback first overall, you'd feel more comfortable if he had a better season than Nick Stevens at Colorado State or Brett Rypien at Boise State.
