The party also said that full bench of the apex court should look into the issues flagged by the dissenting justices, endorsing the plea that senior benches should hear cases of national import.

The Bombay Lawyers' Association has made a decision to intervene in the PIL at the Supreme Court. "This was motivated to remove the case from the Bombay High Court and heard at the Supreme Court instead". "While we kept waiting for our petition to get registered, SC petitions not only got a preliminary hearing, but they were also allocated the CJI's chosen bench the very next day, and that bench even heard the petition", Abdi said.

Warning that democracy is at stake, four senior judges of the Supreme Court Friday mounted a virtual revolt against the country's chief justice, raising questions on "selective" case allocation and certain judicial orders, sending shockwaves across the judiciary and polity.

On being enquired repeatedly, Justice Gogoi told the media that the press conference was prompted on the issue of appointment of judges in the case of death of special CBI Judge BH Loya. "The petitions in Supreme Court were filed after news about our petition came out". A controversy arose a few months ago when a publication carried articles, quoting close family members, raising suspicions on his death. We all believe that the SC must maintain its equanimity.

Supporting the four Supreme Court judges who have taken on the Chief Justice of India, Abdi said that there were serious flaws in the functioning of the judiciary.

The judges had taken up for hearing two writ petitions, seeking independent probe into the mysterious death of CBI special judge B H Loya in 2014, when he was presiding over the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case.

Loya had died on December 1, 2014, in Nagpur, where he had gone to attend the wedding of a colleague's daughter.

The criminal case against BJP president Amit Shah should be re-opened in view of Friday's press conference by four senior Supreme Court judges, Goa Congress state president Shantaram Naik demanded on Saturday.
