CES Loses Power For 2 Hours, Maybe Make Electronics For That?

Preston Stone | 14 January, 2018, 17:50

Technology brands including Intel and IBM have been quick to jump into the social conversation with a tongue-in-cheek brand approach after a blackout struck the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Indeed, it was raining in Las Vegas on January 8 and 9, a rare occurrence for a desert city.

The main hall was plunged into darkness for two hours, as people were evacuated and the robots just covered their eyes.

Later on in the day, CES declared that the problem had been addressed and they were in the process of restoring power.

The blackout in the Las Vegas Convention Centre's Central and South Hall bridge meeting rooms occurred at approximately 11.13am local (Pacific) time on the second day of the show.

Aaron Finch century leaves England chasing 305 in first ODI against Australia
Earlier, Australia scored 304/8 with Finch, Mitchell Marsh (50) and Marcus Stoinis (60) contributing handsomely. Limited-overs skipper said: "Joe is good and should be fit to play tomorrow".

Even after the power was restored, companies had to go through the hassle of resetting devices on display - those connected wirelessly with each other, in particular.

Despite being a convention dedicated to incredible (and sometimes very bizarre) upcoming technology, the Consumer Electronics Show is subject to power loss like anything else. And the more socially conscious pointed out the hypocrisy of being bent out of shape over a brief blackout at CES when an entire territory of the United States has been without power for months... The power outrage, caused by an error with fairly rudimentary electronics, is ironic considering the wealth of next-generation technology exhibited throughout the event. Samsung, Intel, LG and Panasonic were among the tech companies that lost power.

Officials said rainfall from a storm that hit the Valley on Tuesday, may have caused the outage.

In the meantime, twitter lit up with the hashtag #CESBlackout.
