From devices to the data center and every point in between, Intel is collaborating with leaders in the industry to unleash a new era of smart and connected home experiences for consumers - which starts with Intel inside.

Intel is helping OEMs to smoothly transition to the new standard by upgrading its WAV500 Series home Wi-Fi chipsets to 802.11ax without needing to change the host SoC. Chipsets upgraded to 802.11ax will also offer backward compatibility with existing Wi-Fi technologies.

Furthermore, Intel's 802.11ax chipsets are based on Draft 2.0 of 802.11ax, which will be the baseline for 802.11ax certification. That's why Intel has always committed our technical and commercial expertise to the development of Wi-Fi standards and to offering leading Wi-Fi products.

Companies are able to come out with Wi-Fi products before certification (Asus has already announced a router), but most wait for the standard to be finalized.

Intel says that in 2018, it will be paving the "path to faster, more intelligent Wi-Fi" with new chipsets for consumer devices, and mainstream 2x2 and 4x4 home routers and gateways for cable, xDSL, and fiber. Nearly one year following this announcement, Intel has unveiled its 802.11ax chips as well.

When adopting a new standard, it's critical to make sure infrastructure and client devices will work together smoothly.

Apart from Intel, several other WiFi chipset vendors are expected to announce 802.11ax based chipsets at CES next week. Once completed and deployed by hardware makers in earnest, 802.11ax will deliver significant performance over 802.11ac Wi-Fi, with up to 40 percent higher peak data rates for a single client device and much better average throughput in congested areas where many wireless devices operate at the same time-Intel says its chipsets will enable up to 256 devices to share bandwidth at the same time. In this way it is possible to ensure optimal performance of appliance and times that will be lower in applications such as games, videos and voice calls. Celeno┬┤s extensive chip portfolio and ground-breaking software technologies are created to excel in real life, highly interfered dense network scenarios, delivering the level of management, performance, speed, coverage, reliability and superlative user experience demanded by Wi-Fi users.
