According to TMZ, the latest revelation in the mysterious murder case was discovered after an A&E producer for the 'Who Killed Tupac?' series found documents outlining the gun's disappearance.

The producers of Who Killed Tupac said they contacted Las Vegas Police with their claims.

However, despite this discovery, the gun was not handed over to the Las Vegas Police Department, where the murder still remained unsolved, as a prosecutor allegedly cited concerns for conspiracy theories.

It was found 19 years ago in a garden in Compton, but it has since disappeared in around 2006.

Brennan noted the address where the gun was found was the home of a Crips' gang associate who had fought with Tupac, the documentary alleged. Anderson was a known member of the Southside Crips and was killed during a gang shootout on May 29, 1998.

Brennan, who is now retired, initially ordered the ballistic testing which revealed that the gun was used in Tupac's murder, and says there should be no mystery behind the gun's current location - had everyone followed protocol.

She is being held in the Riverside County, California , Jail pending extradition proceedings, the district attorney's office said. They didn't send a patrol officer or relay the information to Memphis police until days later.

According to editors at the US gossip website, a federal prosecutor assigned to the case expressed concerns the discovery of the weapon might alert potential conspirators and issued a recommendation not to turn the gun over to the LVPD. They told TMZ the officers spoken to were unsure if the gun ever reached the Las Vegas Police Department, after being found in Los Angeles.

The gun was reportedly found in someone's backyard and later turned over to the authorities.

Tupac was shot dead in 1996 in a drive-by as he made his way to a gig, and to this day mystery has shrouded the killing - with some even claiming Tupac's death was faked.

Shakur's last words were "f**k you" when he was wounded at the scene and was later taken to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada.

He died on the afternoon of 13 September 1996 from internal bleeding.
