"We believe that sharing information about (intellectual property) reports we receive from rights holders is an important step toward being more open and clear about how we protect the people and businesses that use our services", Sonderby wrote.

Facebook's annual transparency report for 2017 is now out and the Indian government's request for data were up significantly.

Facebook is limited on what information it can share, but sheer numbers show requests hit 78,890 in the first half of 2017, an increase of 33 percent year-on-year and 23 percent on the previous six-month period.

Rangers' Cole Hamels, wife gifting home to children's camp
Cole Hamels said in a news release that he and his wife wanted to help the charity make children's dreams come true. Over the past 24 years, Camp Barnabas has welcomed more than 75,000 campers and missionaries to camp.

Aggregate data shows Facebook received about 377,400 complaints from January through June, with many referencing multiple posts. Each of those country's government had more than 50 percent of requests granted, with the US (85 percent), United Kingdom (90 percent) and France (74 percent) notable for higher rates. The company added that 57 percent of the data requests received from law enforcement in the U.S. contained a non-disclosure order that prohibited it from notifying the user, up from 50 percent in the previous report. Thanks to recent legislation, the company is also now able to disclose the existence of five national security letters, a notorious tool used by USA law enforcement to quietly obtain information on individuals. Those requests covered 41,492 users, and Facebook produced data on 83.4 per cent of them.

Specifically, Facebook restricted content for apparently violating law 28,036 times in the first six months of 2017, compared to 6,944 from the prior half-year. If a request appears to be deficient or overly broad, we push back, and will fight in court, if necessary.

The majority of those restrictions - about 20,506 - came from a request to pull down a video depicting a 15-year-old student shooting at his teacher and students in Monterrey. Facebook removed 20,506 instances of this video. Facebook received between 0 to 499 NSLs in the first half of 2017 concerning 500 to 999 users.
