MLB Network insider Jon Heyman reported late Wednesday night the Athletics will acquire Piscotty for two minor league players yet to be named.

The Cardinals had a surplus in the outfield after Craig Mish of SiriusXM first reported they acquired two-time All-Star Marcell Ozuna from the Miami Marlins.

The former Amador Valley High star batted.235 last season but had an on-base percentage 107 points higher (.342).

Getting Ozuna, one of the prizes of the offseason, made Piscotty expendable, and the A's are ready to pounce. His 2016 campaign saw a.273/.343/.457 batting line with 22 home runs, 85 RBIs, and seven stolen bases. He was ranked as highly as the No. 32 overall prospect in the game by Baseball Prospectus prior to 2015. Piscotty also missed some time with injuries, and family issues in 2017, both of which contributed to his ineffectiveness.

Piscotty is still young and will be playing close to home in 2018. With a combination of Piscotty's season, and the fire sale that is now happening in south beach, the Cardinals upgraded their outfield, and Piscotty had to be moved to Oakland to make room for Ozuna.

The St. Louis Cardinals worked on Wednesday to trade Stephen Piscotty closer to his home in the Bay Area to be near his ailing mother.

The A's are pushing toward a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals that would land the Pleasanton native and former Stanford star.

Piscotty heard some unfortunate news upon being traded to Oakland.

Piscotty's mother was diagnosed with ALS this year, and the Cardinals were trying to accommodate him by looking for a deal to send him to either the Giants or A's.
