The NFF was however fine US$6,000 for the oversight.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will play Egypt and two other countries in preparations ahead of the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation.

Federation Internationale de Football Association fined the NFF the sum of CHF 6,000 (N2,162, 923), declaring the match forfeited and awarded it 3-0 in favour of Algeria.

Pinnick said he takes the responsibility for the error and apologised to Nigerians, saying the sanctions will not take away the focus of the Super Eagles ahead of the Federation Internationale de Football Association contest next year.

Despite the sanction, Nigeria still finish top of Group B but with 13 points instead of 14 while Algeria's total at the bottom is now four instead of 2 points.

Federation Internationale de Football Association had hinted the NFF about the disciplinary proceedings, following the use of defender Abdullahi Shehu in the said match.

"However, this is a grave error and somebody must be punished".

"To be fair to them, throughout the qualifying series, official match documents didn't even show that Shehu Abdullahi was on a yellow card".

Pinnick said: "I want to assure that persons responsible for this slip would not be given just a slap on the wrist". It doesn't change the fact that we didn't keep our eyes on the ball and will help us in our planned restructuring of the Technical and Competitions Department. The Technical Committee will henceforth play serious superintending role on all details, no matter how minute, in technical matters."It is important that all committees and departments at the NFF should move at the same pace as the Executive Committee", stated Pinnick.

"Shame, yes, it's a shame Nigeria don't know a suspended player". It is unbelievable at this age something as simple as knowing the eligibility of a player is hard for the federation. "We helped you to beat Argentina because they had beaten your team in another friendly a few days earlier".
