Things are moving fast in the world of Star Trek movies again, ever since news broke that Quentin Tarantino had pitched a Trek film idea to JJ Abrams.

The screenwriting candidates are Mark L. Smith (The Revenant), Lindsey Beer (an up and coming writer with number of summer action movies for 2018), and Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3). Tarantino usually takes quite a bit of time between projects, but thus far everything about this Star Trek movie has been atypical for the Oscar-winning writer/director. It's a first for the franchise, but Paramount is in something of a bind as the series has yet to really take off the way it had hoped at the box office, so clearly they've sparked to this left-field idea of having Quentin Freaking Tarantino direct it.

We'll bring you more on the Tarantino Star Trek movie as it comes our way.

The Star Trek franchise got its first F-word in October, courtesy of "Star Trek: Discovery", and now one of its films will reportedly be R-rated. Seemingly gone are the talks of an alleged continuation that would have seen Chris Hemsworth return as Captain Kirk's long-dead father; instead, we now have utterly freakish ideas like this one floating around the Trek universe - one that operates in uncertain times, at least on the silver screen.

Brandon Ingram's clutch three in Philadelphia ends Lakers losing streak
The Lakers edged back in front, but Philadelphia tied it again, at 104-104, on Embiid's two free throws with 39.8 seconds to play. And Julius Randle was terrific down the stretch with 16 points, giving Embiid and the Sixers fits off pick and rolls.

In truth, Trek seems to have been suffering from an identity crisis for around a decade now.

Too often, though, modern Trek relies on the laziest possible narrative devices in order to push the story forward, glorifying violence and allowing legacy characters to act contrary to their earlier nature for the sake of pushing them towards infighting and bickering.

Secondly, the film will be written by Mark L. Smith, best known for writing the bear-on-Leonardo DiCaprio hardcore film The Revanant, and that, perhaps, is the most worrying detail to emerge in the last few days.
