Apple upbeat about return of apps in China

Tim Cook says he 'shares China's cyberspace vision' at an event promoting the country's internet censorship Apple's Tim Cook says developers have earned $17 billion from China App Store

Google was shut down in China in 2010 following a showdown with the government over censor policies.

China confirms that its digital economy accounts for almost a third of gross domestic product, according to a report unveiled in the eastern city of Wuzhen during the fourth World Internet Conference where it declared that Chinese cyberspace is "open" - but subject to controls for the greater good.

Cook has come to China several times this year, including an October visit where he was among executives that met with President Xi Jinping, who also had prepared remarks read at the conference on Sunday.

Of course, at the moment, China's internet community is unable to join a common present in cyberspace, blocked off from the rest of the world by mankind's most sophisticated censorship network.

'Many small and medium-sized businesses in China take advantage of Google to get their products to many other countries outside of China'.

In its absence, Chinese firms like Tencent, Alibaba, Baidu and JD.com emerged most powerful players in China and overseas.

As reported by the Washington Post, "The World Internet Conference held in the eastern Chinese city of Wuzhen is meant to promote China's vision of "cyber-sovereignty" - the idea that governments all over the world should have the right to control what appears on the Internet in their countries".

These include virtual private network services, which help users bypass China's firewall.

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc
Stifel Nicolaus maintained Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE: WMT ) rating on Friday, October 21. 18 of them rate its stock a hold. The investor is now holding $36.19 million shares due in part to a decrease of 6.61 million new shares in their portfolio.

Skype, the calling app, was removed from its mainland App Store this autumn.

Cook's attendance is conspicuous at the conference, marking the first high-level executive to attend in the event's four-year history.

"China's experience suggests that both factors are crucial to a sound development of the internet that aims to serve the fundamental interests of the people", Xu Yunhong, an official from the academy, told a news conference in Wuzhen.

The Chinese government uses the event to pursue its argument that its censorship and regulation of the internet does not harm the development of technology and business prosperity.

AROUND 1.8 million tech developers in China use Apples Inc.'s platform, earning a total of CNY112 (US$16.93 billion), according to Apple's chief executive, Tim Cook, speaking at a cybersecurity forum in China on Sunday.

China represents one of Apple's biggest markets, one that it is paying dearly for.

Xi said that online developments were raising many new challenges to sovereignty and security, and China was "willing to work with the global community to respect cyberspace sovereignty and promote partnerships".
