Fingers raised at Narendra Modi will be chopped off, says Bihar BJP chief Nityanand Rai
21 November, 2017, 23:35
Allegations about a threat to break fingers and chop off hands was the result of "mischievous misinterpretation" of a metaphorical saying, Bihar BJP president and Lok Sabha member Nityanand Rai on Tuesday, even as he expressed regret for the comment. I ask them to do so if they have the guts.
"Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi shared the stage with Rai at the event on Monday".
He was chosen to cause a dent in the Yadav vote bank of RJD chief and former chief minister Lalu Prasad.
Crediting Narendra Modi for overcoming huge odds and becoming the leader of the country, Rai said that Modi had become the prime minister of the country after facing a childhood that was filled with poverty and hardship.
The raging controversy later forced Rai to regret his choice of words and retract his comment saying he was just using an idiom and his words should not be taken literally. I said PM Modi is the messiah of the poor.
"What I said is a proverb". Those who raise fingers at the poor and swabhimaani (self-respecting), they are raising it at the Prime Minister. This should be a source of pride for all, he said, and if any "finger or hand was raised" against him, it would be broken or chopped off. Rai was speaking at a function called by the Vaishya and Kanu (OBC) communities. "People threaten to bury people.what I said was not as bad as that", Mr Rai said. They allege that corruption cases being investigated against them by central agencies like the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate are "political vendetta" by the BJP, which this year replaced Mr Yadav's party and the Congress as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's partner in governing Bihar. "There are many who would want to cut off Narendra Modi's hands and neck", said Rabri Devi in her address at RJD's national executive meeting in Patna.
