Masked man Kyrie Irving scored 25 points to lead the Boston Celtics to their 13th consecutive National Basketball Association victory on Tuesday with a 109-102 triumph at Brooklyn.

It was Irving's first game back since he suffered a minor facial fracture during Friday's game against the Charlotte Hornets.

Boston is the first team in National Basketball Association history to secure 12 straight victories after losing the first two games of the season.

Irving repeatedly wrestled with the mask Tuesday, fidgeting with the straps at times while dribbling up the court and removing it completely during nearly every dead-ball situation. He has had to wear a mask before to protect injuries, and says he doesn't like it but understands it is necessary for his safety. And when I have the mask on, I'm really dialed into what's in front of me. "So that's that. Just wearing a mask for precautionary reasons".

Irving returned with 4:45 remaining, moments after watching Marcus Morris hit a 3-pointer with a 95-83 lead. He donned a transparent face mask during the game and went on to lead all scorers with 25 points.

The Brooklyn Nets held a "Hoops for Troops" night where they honored the men and women of the military who were in attendance for the team's game against the Boston Celtics at the Barclays Center.

In truth, the Celtics offense, which has often struggled even with Irving's face unimpeded - indeed, his 8-for-20 shooting performance wasn't all that different from his 44.4 percent coming in - was no better last night. Al Horford also continued his efficient run, with 17 points on 8-for-10 shooting.

An inability to contain Irving down the stretch sent the Nets to a seventh loss in nine games since beating Cleveland on October 25. "We didn't handle it". DeMarre Carroll added 16, and Crabbe and Caris LeVert contributed 15 apiece as the Nets played without leading scorer D'Angelo Russell (left knee contusion). I know we have some true competitors on this team, and obviously they're the reigning champs. So I'm just like, 'Oh, basket.' Like, this is just the best-case scenario. Get the app and get the game. So I'm glad I get to wear a clear one.
