He was the unanimous choice by the BBWAAA (Baseball Writers Association of America).

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Cody Bellinger was named the 2017 National League Rookie of the Year Award victor on Monday, as voted on by the Baseball Writers Association of America.

Like Judge, Bellinger set the rookie home run record in his own league, hitting 39 - a feat made more impressive by the fact that he was not called up to the majors until late April. The Dodgers had five-time All-Star Adrian Gonzalez at first base. Monday's honor made him the Dodgers' 18th rookie of the year victor, by far the most of any franchise, and their second in a row, after Corey Seager in 2016.

Bellinger did not have quite as good a year as Judge did (because nearly no one did), but he did lead all NL rookies in home runs (39), RBIs (97) and both versions of WAR (4.0 on FanGraphs, 4.2 on B-Ref).

Pepsi was the official soft drink of Major League Baseball for the past 20 years, leading up to this season, when Coca-Cola took over.

Bellinger beat out Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman Josh Bell and Cardinals shortstop Paul DeJong in winning the award.

"The first-leg performance shows that we are perfectly capable of overturning the 1-0 result". Now I hope that at San Siro they allow us what the referee allowed them tonight.

"It doesn't make sense to me why they don't talk about it more often", Hernandez said then.

Bellinger was not one of three finalists for the NL MVP award. The 6-foot-7 slugger's victory was a foregone conclusion after he led the American League with 52 home runs and helped the Yankees reach the postseason as a wild card.

Bellinger, who batted.267/.352/.581 on the season with 97 RBIs, also captured all 30 first-place votes.

He became the first player in World Series history to strike out four times in two different games - not in the same year, but over a career.

"Now that the season is over, I'm trying to reflect on how insane this season was", Bellinger said on MLB Network.
