Eddie Berganza, a high-ranking editor at DC Comics, was sacked Monday following a BuzzFeed News report detailing years of sexual harassment allegations against him.

The New York office had a reputation within the industry as being a hard place for women to work under Berganza.

On Monday, according to an email obtained by BuzzFeed, Nelson told freelancers who work with DC, "Our doors are always open and we look forward to working with our employees and our talent community to do better as an organization and as a leader in the comics industry".

Allegedly several reports regarding Berganza's inappropriate behavior has been ignored for years, and he was once promoted to editor-in-chief of the company.

Liz Gehrlein Marsham told BuzzFeed that at another staff party in 2006, just after she had started working for DC as an editor, Berganza used the excuse of taking a selfie to kiss her, then tried to kiss her again, sticking his tongue in her mouth while she was eating.

She added he attempted to grope her later on in the evening too.

DC had previously suspended Berganza in the wake of a BuzzFeed story published Friday in which three women, two on the record and one unnamed, alleged he forcibly kissed and groped them.

Fellow editor at DC Joan Hilty said Berganza "grabbed her and repeatedly tried to pull her in for a kiss" in the early 2000s.

Marsham says that when Berganza began overseeing books she was editing, she withdrew from the editing process altogether to avoid him - with no intervention from her supervisors. Asselin said that development was "massively demoralising" at the time.

She said of the incident: 'At the time I was so terrified that this would affect myself or my partner's prospects in comics, anxious it would jeopardise either of our careers'. He was demoted to group editor, but the incident was not publicly acknowledged by him or DC.

In response to this news DC said in a statement: 'DC and Warner Bros are unequivocally committed to cultivating a work environment of dignity and respect, one that is safe and harassment free for all employees'.

Allegations against Berganza initially became public in April 2016, as reported by Newsarama and others.

The women who made complaints against Berganza seven years ago have all sense moved on from the company.
