Shocking study reveals you are AWARE you're dead when you die

Parnia told Live Science that his team is looking at large numbers of people who have suffered cardiac arrests to figure out what they've gone through when their hearts stopped.

What this means, according to CBS contributors, is that "in many cases they can be aware that they've passed away".

Life after death should become even scarier as new study shows that the mind and consciousness of dead persons continue to work, at least for a short time - literally meaning that the deceased can recognise their own death being announced by medics.

A team from the New York University Langone school of Medicine, conducted a similar experience through twin studies in the United States and Europe, using people who have suffered cardiac arrest and "came back to life", as case studies. However, this can take hours after the heart has stopped, he explained.

In 2013 researchers at the University of MI looked at the electrical signals inside the brains of nine anaesthetised rats having an induced heart attack.

Death is defined as the point at which the heart no longer beats, and blood flow to the brain is cut off.

"These patients would describe watching doctors and nurses working on them and they would portray awareness of full conversations and the visual things that were going on, which they should not have known", said the study's author Dr. Sam Parnia on Live Science, Thursday (10/19/2017).

"These are not return-from-death experiences", Kevin Nelson, a neurologist at the University of Kentucky, said at a conference, reported National Geographic.

"Technically speaking, that's how you get the time of death".

Their accounts of those conversations were then verified by the nursing staff who were present.

"Once that happens, blood no longer circulates to the brain, which means brain function halts nearly instantaneously". Over the years, there have been many reports from patients and medical personnel regarding retention of consciousness after a declaration of death.

This triggers a chain reaction from a cellular process that will result in deaths of brain cells. "The longer you're doing CPR, those brain cell death pathways are still happening, they're just happening at a slightly slower rate".

Right now, scientists are for the same answers but in a safer way, after hearing the wealth of anecdotal evidence from people who say they were aware of events around them, even though they were technically dead at the time.

A 2013 study from the University of MI studied brain signals of rats that were anesthetized and experienced a heart attack.
