Uber on Friday, hours before the deadline, filed papers with Westminster magistrates court, an appeals process that will allow it to continue operating London.

Friday's filing is a short notification of Uber's intention to appeal rather than the detailed grounds.

It said in a statement it was hoping to "continue having constructive discussions with Transport for London".

Today London's mayor, Sadiq Khan, said Transport for London (TfL) will defend its decision not to renew Uber's license - with Uber's appeal process likely to last months (although it can continue to operate in London during this process). In his open letter Khosrowshahi vowed to make things right with for Uber, so that it can still drive through the streets of London.

CONTROVERSIAL CAB COMPANY Uber on Friday launched an appeal against Transport for London's (TfL) decision not to renew its private hire licence.

LONDON (AP) - Uber has appealed the decision to deny it a new operating license in London.

UK Government unveils Clean Growth Strategy
Wednesday saw the UK Government launch its new Clean Growth Strategy which sets out how to grow the national economy while simultaneously cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

New global Chief Executive Dara Khosrowshahi met TfL Commissioner Mike Brown for talks earlier this month, which both sides said were "constructive" as the $70-billion firm tries to fix its relationship with the regulator. He has also apologized for the company's past behavior.

Following the ruling, Uber's CEO Dara Khosrowshahi apologised to Londoners on behalf of the company.

The market is Uber's most important in Europe, where it claims to have some 3.5 million users and around 40,000 drivers.

"While Uber had revolutionised the way people move in cities around the world, it's equally true that we've got things wrong along the way", he wrote.

Uber hired Khosrowshahi from USA travel group Expedia in August, in the hope that he can steer the ride-sharing service away from the string of controversies.
