The Porsche Mission-E electric sports saloon is only just around the corner, but it's starting to look like Porsche are further down the line withy electric versions of their sports cars than we perhaps realised.
Porsche has revealed the Cayman e-volution, a one-off electric sports auto based on the 718 Cayman at the at the Electric Vehicle Symposium, the world's largest industry gathering on the topic of e-mobility, in Stuttgart, Germany.
With the Cayman e-volution the company presents a research vehicle with a charging voltage of 800 volts that accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and offers a range of 200 kilometres.
And it's an electric powertrain which can cope with the new 800v charging system Porsche is offering in the Mission-E which will charge - to 80 per cent - in not a lot longer than it'd take to stick in 20 gallons of unleaded at the pump.
Porsche debuted its "Porsche Turbo Charging" system, which it claims is capable of juicing up to 320 kW per vehicle.
The Cayman e-volution also hints at what to expect from the Porsche's forthcoming Mission E electric sports auto, which will go into production in 2019. The system is a collaborative development between Porsche Engineering and ADS-TEC, and is particularly suitable for use in areas where the distribution system is subject to power limitations.
The vehicle comes with a range of 200 kilometers and a 0 to 62 miles per hour rime of just 3.3 seconds.
Porsche says the system will be used as a supplement to high-power fast-charging networks with a medium-voltage connection.
Walking past one you would be hard pressed to see many physical differences between it and the standard vehicle.
