New Equifax Hack! Company Webpage Was Redirecting to Malware Download

Was Equifax Hacked Again? Equifax compromised yet again as its website directs visitors to install malware
Preston Stone | 13 October, 2017, 00:20

Equifax - whose multimillionaire CEO chose to set sail from the company weeks after the announcement that, under his watch, the information of 143 million Americans was obtained by hackers - was sending visitors of its website to the completely bogus software update. Equifax says it took the page down "out of an abundance of caution" as it investigates.

An independent security analyst reportedly found on Wednesday that the company's website was attacked by hackers who attempted to install fraudulent Adobe Flash updates created to infect computers with malware, according to Ars Technica.

Equifax's stock plunged at the news of the latest breach, a Wall Street Journal reporter noted on Twitter.

"We are aware of the situation identified on the equifax.com website in the credit report assistance link", said Equifax spokesman Wyatt Jefferies.

Still, while the company claims that its own servers weren't hacked, it's unclear if any visitors were nevertheless compromised because of code that it appeared on its site.

October 12, 2017: Equifax confirms it was hacked again, this time with a fake Flash installer application.

In early October, Equifax revised the number of consumers potentially impacted in the breach - bumping up the total in the U.S.to 145.5 million and reducing the number in Canada from an estimated 100,000 to 8,000.

On its website, Equifax's Canadian division says it has not yet mailed out any notices and made clear it would not be making any unsolicited calls or emails about the issue.

In what could be yet another incident of hacking, Equifax has taken down a web page because of suspicion that it had been manipulated.
