A South Florida senator has filed the first bill in response to the deaths of eight nursing home residents this week after Hurricane Irma knocked out their air conditioning.

A caseworker named Ed, who declined to give his last name, came to the facility Wednesday morning to check on his 80-year-old dementia patient.

"We love the people of Florida and they went through something that, I guess, the likes of which we could really say nobody's ever seen before", Trump said in Naples.

"We believe at this time they (the deaths) may be related to the loss of power in the storm". However, when she showed up to work, paramedics were barring the doors and telling her she could not enter. As a precautionary measure, police are checking the other 42 nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the city of Hollywood, Sanchez said.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, more than 40% of Florida was without electricity as of Wednesday (September 14), The Washington Post reports.

Calls to the owner and other officials at the Hollywood home were not immediately returned, but the facility's administrator, Jorge Carballo, said in a statement that it was "cooperating fully with relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances that led to this unfortunate and tragic outcome".

Firefighters discovered two people dead inside the house, FOX35 Orlando reported. Broward County hadn't identify this nursing home as a "top-tier, critical infrastructure" facility, he said. Police say three patients died at the facility and three at a hospital.

Global hunger on rise, say United Nations food agencies
The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World , 2017 - says that malnutrition is threatening millions across the globe. About 60 percent live of the 850 million people suffering from hunger live in areas affected by conflict.

The Daytona Beach Fire Department said on Twitter a generator had been running inside the home.

After helping to pass out food, the president took tours of several neighborhoods, where he witnessed firsthand the damage done by the hurricanes.

SC governor Henry McMaster on Tuesday lifted an evacuation order that had been in effect on the barrier islands in the southern part of the state.

The nearby Larkin Community Hospital was also evacuated.

As David Halstead, the former director of Florida's Division of Emergency Management, wrote in an editorial on CNN's website before Irma hit, powerful storms leave danger in their wake. But no one knows for sure how much it will cost to clean up following Hurricane Irma.

Irma wreaked total devastation in parts of the Caribbean, where at least 43 people have died.

"This is a classic example of our crews are out of site, but they're working around the clock to get the lights back on and we're not going to stop until we do so", said Labrador. The exact number has not been released.
