British police raced Saturday to track down whoever planted a bomb on a packed London Underground train, as authorities raised the national threat level to maximum, meaning another attack may be imminent.

Britain is now on the highest terror alert, "critical", meaning another attack is expected imminently, and a manhunt is under way for multiple suspects after police scoured District Line CCTV.

The Metropolitan Police's Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley said it was "very routine" for IS to claim the attack "whether or not they've had any previous engagement with the individuals involved". Police now say 30 people "are known to have been injured" in what they call a terrorist attack.

Currently, both the suspects, charged under the Britain's Terrorism Act are being interrogated by the cops at the South London Police Station.

The mayor urged people to "remain calm and vigilant" in the wake of the explosion, which occurred at around 8:20 a.m. BST on Friday at Parsons Green subway station.

It comes after the arrest of an 18-year-old man in Dover, in the departure area of the port.

Deputy Assistant Police Commissioner Neil Basu called the arrest "significant", but cautioned that the investigation into the attack was ongoing and that the threat level in the United Kingdom remains "critical". The London Ambulance Service said 18 people have been taken to hospital, and four more reached there on their own.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack Friday night through several channels linked to the terror group.

Police said a device was placed inside a bag and left by the tube carriage door before exploding towards the rear of the train, filling the carriage with smoke.

Police said 45 witnesses have been spoken to and 77 images and videos have been sent in by members of the public.
