The Islamic Resistance Movement a.k.a. Hamas on Sunday announced the dissolution of its Administrative Committee that has been ruling the Gaza Strip, and called for a reconciliation government to carry out its duties in the strip, to hold elections and enter talks with the PLO, Ma'an reported.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Hamas said it has accepted key conditions set by President Mahmoud Abbas, and would dissolve what is known as the Gaza administrative committee, a body seen as a parallel government to Abbas' Palestinian Authority.
Hamas and Fatah agreed in 2014 to form a national reconciliation government, but despite that agreement, Hamas's shadow government has continued to rule the Gaza Strip.
Welcoming Hamas' announcement, a senior Fatah official, Mahmoud Aloul told Reuters, Mahmoud Aloul, "If this is Hamas statement, then this is a positive sign".
The Gaza Strip's militant Hamas rulers said they were ready to take key steps meant to allow the reunification of the rival Palestinian governments.
