ExpensiveWall: Banking Trojan targets Android users with fake SMS messages 21 million users fall victim to second Google Android malware attack

Most probably, this time the malicious app has infected more than 5,000 devices before it was removed four days later.

As attackers found it easy to reinstall the malicious software back into Google's App store, the Silicon Valley Company still have work to do to better secure their system.

Play Store has reportedly infected millions of phones with destructive malware, which is believed to stem from at least 50 apps on Google Play. But before Google pulled them from the store, they racked up between 1 million and 4.2 million downloads.

Google removed the most-recent batch of infected applications promptly from Play after Check Point informed the company about the issue on August.

However, if users have already installed and are still using these apps on their phone, they are still vulnerable to monetary fraud, and have been advised to manually remove the apps from their devices immediately.

According to the security vendor, users who downloaded the applications are still at risk and need to uninstall the software. Head over to Check Point's blog post and scroll down to the chart at the bottom to see the full list of infected apps.

The malware known as ExpensiveWall, which has affected apps that have been downloaded by millions of users, uses excessive permissions to sign users up for premium services without their knowledge. In contrast to the majority of malware detected in Google Play, this "directly causes harm to users" and emptied their accounts.

Ranked Alabama rolls against Colorado State
The rest of the game was more competitive in Alabama's second straight matchup against a team from the Mountain West Conference. The Rams went three-and-out on their first possession but used a 65-yard Ryan Stonehouse punt to pin Alabama at its 5.

Check Point notified Google about the threat last month, and it "promptly removed" the offending apps from the Play store.

The newest versions were created to steal credentials of customers of 10 banks in the United Arab Emirates, Trend Micro said in an advisory this week. Meanwhile, the C&C server, sends the malware a URL which it opens in an embedded WebView window and downloads the JavaScript code used to send the premium SMS messages.

The Check Point researchers found the ExpensiveWall malware in the Lovely Wallpaper application.

Researchers Check Point discovered the malware outbreak, which targeted Google's Android OS and Play Store.

"While these permissions are harmful within the context of a malware, many apps request the same permissions for legitimate purposes".

The malware sends fraudulent premium SMS messages, which is where the "expensive" bit comes in, and makes fake charges against user accounts.
