As world watches Irma, hurricanes Jose and Katia gather strength

Florida allowed some residents to return on Tuesday to areas hammered by Hurricane Irma's high winds and storm surge, it was the second major hurricane to hit the United States this year, Reuters reported.
Maximum sustained winds are at 75 miles per hour, but it's possible that Jose could downgrade to a tropical storm sometime Tuesday.
Jose will actually be one of the rare hurricanes to take a looping path.

The only effect here in New England from Jose (and along the East Coast) is likely to be some rough seas.
Jose is 435 miles from Grand Turk Island and 655 miles from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
On late Monday afternoon, the NHC announced that Hurricane Jose continues to move far northeast of the Bahamas.
"The storm will remain over warm water for the next several days, and this should allow it to maintain a robust circulation", AccuWeather Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski said.
Computer runs suggest the storm will keep out to sea about halfway between Cape Hatteras, N.C., and Bermuda, said Mark Malsick, S.C. Climate Office severe weather liaison.
"It's important to emphasize that there is a still a lot of computer model uncertainty on Jose's next move but it still is a storm to watch for the US and Canada", he said. But don't count on that - most models forecast Jose will fall apart in the Atlantic.
