A suspect is in custody after reports of an active shooter sent a hospital in western New Hampshire into lockdown and partial evacuation.

The hospital has been placed on lockdown with those inside being told to shelter-in-place. WMUR reports that there has been no official confirmation of shots fired but the hospital has issued an "active shooter alert".

Workers received an email earlier in the afternoon from the hospital for a "code silver", which means employees need to get out of the hospital if possible or if they can not leave, then they should shelter in place.

Lebanon police said Tuesday they are investigating reports of an active shooter at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

Hurricane Jose still a potential threat to Florida after Hurricane Irma
However, most computer models indicate Jose will stay out to sea and complete a tight enough loop to avoid moving onshore. A complicated high-altitude environment over the Atlantic Ocean is what is causing Jose to wobble around the Atlantic.

The university urged people to avoid the area until further notice. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

The hospital said it's assessing the situation and that Lebanon and N.H. State Police are on-site.

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center is New Hampshire's largest hospital, and is located in the west-central portion of the state.

The office of New Hampshire's attorney general confirmed they are also responding to the scene.
