Barcelona's Sagrada Familia evacuated in false alarm

Sagrada Familia Church Police Cordoned Off Sagrada Familia Church in Barcelona Over Suspicious Vehicle
Sammy Stanley | 13 September, 2017, 03:11

Earlier on Tuesday police sent a bomb squad to check a van parked next to Barcelona's world-famous Sagrada Familia church, which was evacuated as part of an anti-terrorism operation.

A spokesman with the Mossos d'Esquadra regional police said the church has been evacuated and several streets cordoned off to allow police work in the area.

Catalan police said on Twitter (in Catalan) that checks ruled out that the vehicle had any unsafe material.

But the alert was soon confirmed to be a false alarm by Catalan police and the local government.
