Bryce Harper's Scary Knee Injury Diagnosed As A "Significant" Bone Bruise

Harper avoided any ligament or tendon damage. Harper's left foot slid on the first base bag, sending the right fielder sprawling and clutching his knee.

Now, it looks like Harper could eveen be back this season if all goes well.

The game had been delayed due to heavy rains and it still was sprinkling when the game began.

Nationals' manager Dusty Baker announced after the game that Harper hyper-extended his knee and will undergo an MRI, according to MLB.com reporter Jamal Collier.

The Nationals are running away with the division despite those injuries and more to starters Stephen Strasburg and Joe Ross, relievers Shawn Kelley and Koda Glover and shortstop Trea Turner, but a long-term injury to Harper would be far more trouble to Washington's postseason hopes.

Replacing Harper on the roster: Michael Taylor, who came off the disabled list.

The Giants and Nationals will square off twice on Sunday in a split doubleheader to make up for Friday's postponement, as San Francisco will send Chris Stratton to the mound in the first game and lefty Matt Moore to the hill in game two.

Doolittle was one of three University of Virginia products in the game, along with Washington first baseman Ryan Zimmerman (2 for 3 with a walk) and Giants left fielder Jarrett Parker (1-for-4).

Nationals: After a day off, Washington hosts the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday in the start of a two-game series.
