Trump condemns 'violence' at white supremacist rally Violence in Virginia Prompts Emergency Demonstration in Oakland

Donald Trump is coming under fire for refusing to condemn white supremacists after an attack on counter-protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, left three dead and dozens injured, with the president instead claiming that hatred on "many sides" was responsible.

Addressing reporters, Trump refused to name white supremacists or any specific group, blaming the violence "on many sides".

Politicians from both sides of the aisle condemned the violence that turned deadly as white nationalists gathered over the weekend in Charlottesville, Va., to protest the removal of a Confederate monument.

So people did it for him.

President Donald Trump has come under fire, including from fellow Republicans, for his apparent refusal to criticize far-right hate groups. "Having watched the horrifying video of the vehicle deliberately crashing into a crowd of protesters, I urge the Department of Justice to immediately investigate and prosecute this grotesque act of domestic terrorism", the statement said.

"You came here today to hurt people and you did hurt people, but my message is clear - we are stronger than you". Later a helicopter responding to the violence crashed outside the city, killing two state police troopers.

"I would recommend you take a good look in the mirror & remember it was White Americans who put you in the presidency, not radical leftists", Duke tweeted.

The pair were among three people who authorities said died in connection with the violence near the main campus of the University of Virginia.

Helicopters were reported flying overhead in Charlottesville as Gov. Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency after what is believed to be the largest gathering of white nationalists in a decade. "There is no place for you here, there is no place for you in America", the governor said. It has been going on for a long, long time. Fields is in police custody.

Charlottesville Police identified the driver as 20-year-old James Alex Fields Jr. of Ohio.

A flier for the event circulating on social media reads "Charlottesville, We Got Your Back" and "Bay Area United Against White Supremacy".
