Bautista Agut struggled on his serve as he was broken three times and won just 65 % of his first serve points.

It will be just the second career meeting between the two.

Having performed so admirably to force a tie-break, Haase started slowly but again showed his character by winning four points in a row from 4-1 down.

Mannarino became the fourth established ATP player this week to fall at the hands of the 18-year-old lefthanded Canadian.

Shapovalov has taken major strides this week to reach his goal of cracking the world's top 100 with wins over Rogerio Dutra Silva and 2009 U.S. Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro.

The Swiss maestro, who recently clinched his 19th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, eased past Bautista Agut 6-4, 6-4 in a one-sided quarter-final clash that lasted one hour and eight minutes.

Federer said he knows Haase well from serving with him on the ATP player council and from practicing together.

"I was not as fast".

"I've been working on it a lot in the past few years". "I started off pretty slow, just drained from (Thursday)".

Shapovalov will next meet the victor of a match later Friday between fourth-seeded Alexander Zverev of Germany and Kevin Anderson of South Africa.

Now ranked 143rd in the world after a win in a lower-level Challenger event only three weeks ago in Gatineau, Que., Shapovalov will crack the top 70, possibly to 66th, for reaching the semifinals.
