North Korea Details Plan to Fire Missiles at Guam

Trump: North Korea will be met with North Korea looking at plan to strike US territory of Guam

Trump has threatened to unleash "fire and fury like the world has never seen" in response to Kim's warnings of imminent attacks on the U.S. Meanwhile, Kim has said his country was preparing to fire missiles into waters around Guam.

A plan to fire four ballistic missiles into the stunning blue waters off the coast is being prepared for Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un by mid-August, state media reported Thursday.

He also reassured anxious residents an attack on Guam is "an attack or threat on the United States" and said, "Guam is on American soil".

"We're very concerned about the news but we've been given assurance by the local government, primarily through Governor Eddie Calvo, that he is working with the military to ensure that the safety of all the residents are the utmost priority", Analista said.

The US military has a huge footprint across south-east Asia and the Pacific, particularly in Japan and South Korea.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is the Stalinist state's formal name.

Six B-1B bombers, each capable of carrying up to 84 missiles, are at Guam's military base.

"As demonstrated today, our air forces stand combat-ready to deliver airpower when called upon", said Lt. Col. Daniel Diehl, commander of the 37th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron after the exercise. The allies did not announce the mission in advance. "Further, it increased our readiness and exercised our rights under global law to fly legally in the place and time of our choosing". "The military action the KPA is about to take will be an effective remedy for restraining the frantic moves of the U.S. in the southern part of the Korean peninsula and its vicinity". Along with the USA itself, the two allies are frequently targets of Pyongyang's threatening rhetoric. But it wasn't known until now that the contacts have continued, or that they have broached matters other than US detainees.

"This grave situation requires the KPA to closely watch Guam, the outpost and beachhead for invading the DPRK, and necessarily take practical actions of significance to neutralize it".

"I really would want to tamp down this rhetoric, maintain armistice conditions, keep the force ready and", he said, "not get the herd spooked".

Saturday's game was delayed three hours with more inclement weather and the rain conditions came into play right away. The series opener Friday was postponed after a lengthy rain delay to be a part of a day-night doubleheader Sunday.

Asked if people in Guam should be anxious about North Korea's threats, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis told reporters en route to Seattle this week, "No". It has two 2-mile (3-kilometer) long runways and large fuel and munitions storage facilities.

Because Guam is a USA territory, the US military may launch forces from there without worrying about upsetting a host nation that may object to US actions.

If the United States were to decide to intercept the missiles, it would be the first test of its missile defense system's ability to shoot down actual missiles from an enemy state.

"So there are capabilities in different varying degrees between North Korea and Guam, and the THAAD system happens to be the last in a line or layer of a defensive shield".

Guam's Homeland Security Adviser George Charfauros urged calm and said defenses are in place for such threats.

The naval base is an important outpost for US fast-attack submarines that are a key means for gathering intelligence in the region, including the Korean peninsula and the South China Sea where China has been building military bases on man-made islands. "We just want peace, we just want to continue to enjoy our lives here". On July 28, it conducted a second test of its long-range Hwasong-14 ICBM.

At present, Seoul is allowed to possess ballistic missiles with a range of 800 kilometres and payload of 500 kilogrammes.

But few of the military options are straightforward, and some former Pentagon officials involved in war planning for North Korea pointed to the complexities. It noted which weapons it would use (intermediate range ballistic missiles), how many of them (four) - and the timing: sometime before the end of this month.

Guam, with a 2016 population of nearly 163,000, has been fought over for centuries.
