Britain has won gold in the men's 4x100 metres relay at the World Athletics Championships in London.

However, Edris and team-mate Yomif Kejelcha seized the initiative as the bell went and Farah struggled to go with them.

So they caught him in the end, Mo Farah losing his last race on the track inside a packed London Olympic Stadium, beaten into second place after a savagely competitive 5,000 metres final.

"I gave it all but I had nothing left at the end", a crestfallen and emotional Farah said. That's what they did tonight, and the better man won on the day.

The 34-year-old, whose winning run in the 5,000m at Olympics and world finals stretched back to 2011, fought desperately to claw back the deficit in the finishing straight but Edris held on to win in 13min 32.79sec.

West Ham Makes Club Record Bid for William Carvalho
The Portugal global has been chased by a number of elite clubs, including Juventus and Arsenal , his biggest admirers in England. West Ham United are launching a £25m bid for Sporting Lisbon and Portugal midfielder William Carvalho , according to reports .

But he was defeated after failing to mount a recovery in the last 200m in a frantic sprint finish.

Edris won in 13 minutes, 33.79 seconds, .43 seconds ahead of Farah in second.

He said: "I thought it might be possible (to win), but my legs had it". Andrew Butchart, the other Briton appearing in the final, finished eighth with a time of 13:38.73.

But when he starts his career as a marathon runner, Farah will be able to reflect on having created an incredible legacy with his four Olympic and six World Championship gold medals.

They both failed to clear 1.97 metres - just one centimetre short of Johnson-Thompson's personal best - having jumped 1.95m and Ashley Bryant came 11th the decathlon with 8,049 points.
